Pension Information

The Social Security Pension Schemes implemented through the Local Self Government Department of the Government of Kerala provide financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries. The current framework and details of these schemes are given below.

Major Pension Schemes

There are five major Social Security Pension Schemes currently implemented in Kerala:

  • Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension: Provided to economically disadvantaged senior citizens aged 60 years and above.
  • Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension: Financial assistance provided to economically disadvantaged widows and women who have been deserted by their husbands.
  • Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension: Pension provided to persons with physical or mental disabilities having 40% or more disability.
  • Agricultural Labour Pension: Provided to agricultural labourers who have completed 60 years of age.
  • Pension for Unmarried Women Above 50 Years: A social security scheme intended to provide financial assistance and social security to economically disadvantaged unmarried women aged 50 years and above.

Major Eligibility Criteria

  • Income Limit: The applicant's annual family income should not exceed ₹1,00,000.
  • Other Benefits: Persons receiving other service pensions or having permanent sources of income are generally not eligible for the scheme, subject to the applicable rules.
  • Residence: Preference is given to applicants who are permanent residents of Kerala.

How to Apply

  1. Applicants can submit their applications directly at the concerned Grama Panchayat / Municipality / Corporation offices or through Akshaya Centres.
  2. Applications can also be submitted online and the application status can be checked through the Sevana Pension Portal.
  3. Documents such as Ration Card, Aadhaar Card, Income Certificate, Age Proof, Bank Passbook, and other documents prescribed under the applicable scheme should be submitted along with the application.
